Terms of Service

These Terms apply to StoryBank, a website, mobile app, account dashboard, public story service, and related services provided by Manx Digital, Central Promenade, Isle of Man IM2 4JL. By using StoryBank, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate account information and keep it up to date. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms, create risk, or are used in a way that harms StoryBank or other people.

Your Stories and Content

You keep ownership of the stories, images, profile information, voice samples, and other content you provide. You give StoryBank a licence to host, store, copy, process, display, publish, transmit, and adapt your content only as needed to operate, secure, support, and improve StoryBank and to show public content you choose to publish.

You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed for anything you upload, record, publish, or share, including stories about other people, photographs, recordings, and any names or likenesses included in your content.

Public Content

If you mark a story or profile as public, you authorise StoryBank to display it publicly, make it available through public pages, include it in public story grids, and use reasonable excerpts, titles, images, and metadata to promote StoryBank. You can change visibility later, but public content may already have been indexed, cached, copied, or shared by others.

Voice, Audio, and Cloning Rules

Voice cloning is optional and is provided through third-party voice technology, including ElevenLabs. You may only upload your own voice for cloning unless StoryBank provides a specific lawful process for delegated consent. You must not upload a voice sample of another person, imitate another person without permission, create deceptive audio, or use StoryBank for impersonation, fraud, harassment, political deception, unlawful activity, or infringement of someone else's rights.

By creating an own-voice clone, you confirm that the recording is your voice, that you consent to StoryBank sending the recording to ElevenLabs, and that ElevenLabs may process the recording, voice model, text, generated audio, and related metadata under its own terms and policies. You also understand that switching own-voice playback off does not delete the clone; you must use the delete control or contact us if you want the clone removed.

If you choose a shared playback setting, generated narration using your voice clone may be available to other people who can access the relevant shared or public story experience where that feature is supported.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• upload unlawful, abusive, exploitative, defamatory, hateful, or infringing content;
• publish private information about another person without the right to do so;
• attempt to bypass access controls, scrape private areas, interfere with security, or disrupt the service;
• use StoryBank or generated audio to mislead people about who said something or to impersonate someone;
• reverse engineer, overload, resell, or misuse StoryBank or its third-party services;
• use StoryBank in a way that violates the terms or acceptable-use rules of providers such as ElevenLabs, Apple, Google, or other integrated services.

Third-Party Services

StoryBank relies on third-party services for hosting, storage, authentication, email, image storage, transcription, narration, voice cloning, app distribution, and other operations. Their terms and privacy policies may also apply to your use of those features. We are not responsible for third-party services that we do not control, but we choose providers to support the operation of StoryBank.

Subscriptions, Purchases, and App Stores

If StoryBank offers paid features, purchases may be handled by app stores or payment providers. Their billing, refund, and cancellation rules may apply in addition to these Terms. Unless stated otherwise, paid access does not give you ownership of StoryBank software, infrastructure, or third-party voice models.

Service Changes and Availability

We may change, improve, suspend, or discontinue parts of StoryBank. We aim to preserve user content responsibly, but no online service can guarantee uninterrupted availability, permanent storage, or error-free operation. You should keep your own copies of important memories and media.

Moderation and Enforcement

We may review, hide, remove, restrict, or report content if we believe it violates these Terms, creates legal risk, harms other people, or threatens the service. We may also suspend accounts, disable public sharing, or remove access to voice features where needed.

Disclaimers and Liability

StoryBank is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, loss of data, lost profits, or issues caused by third-party services, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users. Your continued use of StoryBank after updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Isle of Man, unless consumer protection law in your country requires otherwise. Courts in the Isle of Man will have jurisdiction where legally permitted.
