Privacy Policy

StoryBank is provided by Manx Digital, Central Promenade, Isle of Man IM2 4JL. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use the StoryBank website, mobile app, account dashboard, public profiles, public stories, and related services.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide, information created when you use StoryBank, and technical information needed to operate the service.

  • Account and profile information: name, email address, username, password credentials or social sign-in identifiers, verification status, avatar, bio, role, preferences, and settings.
  • Story and archive content: story titles, text, images, dates, tags, draft or public status, profile relationships, likes, comments or other interactions if enabled, and edits you make to that content.
  • Voice and audio information: microphone recordings you choose to provide, transcription input and output, selected narration voices, voice IDs, voice-clone consent records, voice-clone creation dates, and private or shared voice-playback settings.
  • Device and usage information: device identifiers, app version, device type, browser type, IP address, log data, security events, pages viewed, features used, and dates and times of activity.
  • Support and communications: messages you send us, attachments, feedback, and information needed to respond to your request.

How We Use Information

We use information to provide, secure, maintain, and improve StoryBank. This includes:

  • creating and authenticating accounts;
  • saving, organising, displaying, and updating stories, profiles, images, tags, and dates;
  • showing public stories and public profiles you choose to publish;
  • providing app features such as transcription, narration, and optional voice cloning;
  • sending account, verification, password reset, service, and support messages;
  • detecting abuse, debugging errors, protecting accounts, and keeping the service reliable;
  • complying with law, enforcing our terms, and resolving disputes.

Voice Features, ElevenLabs, and Training

StoryBank's public website does not create voice clones, play audio, or provide chat features. The mobile app may offer voice-related features, including transcription, narration, and an optional own-voice clone for story narration.

If you choose to create an own-voice clone, you must give consent in the app and provide a voice sample. StoryBank sends that sample and related metadata to ElevenLabs so ElevenLabs can create and host the voice model used for narration. StoryBank stores the returned voice ID, your consent timestamp, creation timestamp, and playback scope. StoryBank does not intentionally keep the original voice-clone recording after it has been submitted for clone creation, and the app deletes the local recording when setup is cancelled or completed.

ElevenLabs processes audio, text, generated audio, voice models, and voice data under its own terms, privacy policy, data processing terms, and account settings. ElevenLabs states that it may use voice data and other input or output data to provide voice services, improve products and models, support safety, and prevent misuse, subject to its policies and available opt-out or enterprise settings. If you create or use an own-voice clone in StoryBank, you should understand that your voice sample and resulting voice model are processed by ElevenLabs outside StoryBank's direct systems.

You can switch own-voice playback off, choose whether it is private or shared where supported, or delete the clone from app settings. Deleting a clone removes StoryBank's stored clone identifiers and sends a deletion request to ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs may retain limited records, backups, logs, safety records, or legal records according to its own policies.

Other Service Providers

We use third-party providers to operate StoryBank. Depending on the feature, these may include:

  • cloud hosting, database, storage, monitoring, and security providers;
  • image and media storage providers such as Cloudinary;
  • authentication providers such as Google and Apple when you choose social sign-in;
  • email providers for verification, password reset, product, and support messages;
  • AI or speech providers, including ElevenLabs for voice generation and cloning and transcription providers where voice-to-text features are used;
  • app store or payment providers where purchases, subscriptions, or billing are handled outside StoryBank.

These providers may process information in countries other than your own. We use them only for the purposes of operating, securing, supporting, or improving StoryBank.

Public Stories and Sharing

You control story visibility. Draft and private stories are intended for your account and authorised access only. Public stories, public profile details, author names, images, dates, tags, excerpts, and related metadata may be visible on the public website, indexed by search engines, and shared by other people.

If you enable shared own-voice playback for a story or profile in the app, people with access to that shared experience may hear generated narration using your voice clone where that feature is available.

Retention and Deletion

We keep account information, stories, profile content, and settings for as long as needed to provide StoryBank or until you delete them, ask us to delete them, or we no longer need them. We may keep limited records where required for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, backups, or fraud prevention.

Voice clones remain available until you delete them or your account is closed, subject to provider retention policies. Public stories may remain visible until you change their visibility or delete them. Cached public pages may take time to disappear from search engines or third-party services.

Your Choices and Rights

You can update your profile, manage story visibility, change voice settings, and delete stories from the app or web dashboard where those features are available. You can contact us to request access, correction, deletion, export, restriction, objection, or withdrawal of consent where applicable by law.

If you are unhappy with our response, you may have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, including the Isle of Man Information Commissioner where applicable.

Children

StoryBank is not intended for children to create accounts without appropriate parental or guardian involvement. Do not create voice clones or publish stories about another person unless you have the rights, consent, and authority needed to do so.
