Rosie’s Hard-Won Graduation
My niece Rosie graduated this week, and what stays with me most is how much it meant that she invited me to attend. We have always been close, so maybe to some people it would seem like a small thing, but to me it was a lovely gesture. It made me feel thought of. There is something very special about being included in a moment that someone has worked so hard for.
I felt so proud of her. Rosie graduated with an apprenticeship in nursing, and she did not get there easily. She completed it with a few real obstacles in her way. She had to have surgery on a broken arm, and then later she had further surgery to remove a kidney. Just saying that out loud makes me admire her all over again, because it would have been so understandable if she had needed to stop or slow down. But Rosie was determined to complete the course despite the setbacks, and she did.
When I saw her graduate, it did not change the way I saw her, because I already knew she was going to thrive at what she does. That was never in doubt for me. If anything, the day just confirmed what I had always felt about her. She has that strength in her, that steady determination, and it carried her through.
I attended with her sister Mollie, and she was really proud too. That meant a lot to me as well, because I have a lovely close relationship with them both. Looking back, I think that is what I will hold onto just as much as the graduation itself: the pride, the closeness, and the feeling of being there beside them for such an important moment. More than anything, I hope we always stay close. That is what made the whole thing feel so meaningful to me.My niece Rosie graduated this week, and it has stayed with me in a really lovely way. What meant so much to me was not just that she graduated, but that she invited me to attend. We have always been close, so maybe it should have felt natural, but it still touched me. It was lovely for her to think of me and include me in something so important in her life.
I felt very proud of her. Rosie graduated with an apprenticeship in nursing, and I know that was not an easy road for her. She had a few real obstacles along the way. She had to have surgery on a broken arm, and then later she had further surgery to remove a kidney. Those are not small things. A lot of people would have understood if she had stepped back for a while, but Rosie was determined to complete the course despite all of that. That is what stands out to me most when I think about it. She just kept going.
Seeing her graduate did not change the way I saw her, really, because I already knew she was going to thrive at what she does. That day only confirmed what I had always believed about her. She has that kind of strength in her, and she has the determination to see something through even when life puts setbacks in her way.
I attended with her sister Mollie, and she was really proud too. That made the day even nicer for me, because I have a lovely close relationship with both of them. There was something very special in sharing that moment together, all of us feeling proud of Rosie and what she had achieved.
When I look back on it, I think I will remember that feeling most of all: pride, closeness, and gratitude. I hope that Rosie, Mollie, and I always stay close. Being there this week meant a lot to me, not only because of what Rosie achieved, but because of what it said about our relationship. It was a lovely gesture from her, and I will not forget it.
