Paws and Reflection at Bradgate Park
Struggling against the lethargy that often shackles one's intentions, it was near 11 am when I breached the walls of procrastination. At that moment, Poppy and I, an indefatigable Jack Russell terrier, set our sights on an escapade to Bradgate Park, a gem I had stumbled upon on Google Maps. Though Poppy had tread its paths before, its wonders awaited my first glimpse. We cruised along the M1 and in 45 minutes, the car park unfolded before us, signaling the start of our journey.
The sprawling expanse of Bradgate was immediately striking, with wild deer as unperturbed denizens wandering the vistas. Footpaths stretched endlessly, weaving through a history that harked back to Tudor times and whispered tales of Lady Jane Grey. Our trek spanned a good 6 miles, from the crumbling elegance of Bradgate House to the quaint local pub where a pint and crisps paid homage to tradition.
A pack of deer halted our march toward Old John's tower, delivering us into serenity. Absent were the modern cacophonies of cars and crafts, replaced by the symphonies of nature—the bark of squirrels and the narration of crows. It was June 5th, 2024, a day emblazoned in my memory through the lens of my camera and the scenic photos that captured the essence of Bradgate.
Home welcomed a weary Poppy, her fatigue so profound she succumbed to sleep, missing her dinner but perhaps dreaming of our adventure. I lingered outside, letting the fresh air embrace me as I delved into the cosmic quests of Star Trek. But the call of the wild was irresistible; the scent of nature beckoned me back outside to savor the twilight of an indelible day.
The walk at Bradgate was more than an outing; it was a promise of burgeoning challenges and exploration. With summer as our canvas, we aimed to etch a tapestry of trails of increasing complexity. Already, my mind was alight with potential adventures scattered across the UK, a list burgeoning with promise.
And in the quietude of the garden, I grasped a profound truth—beauty and adventure were not confined to far-off lands but lay waiting in every corner of this island. It was a realization that heralded a summer of discoveries, and as I wrapped up the evening, I etched the day's memory into my trove of treasured experiences.
