The Traveling Cat and the Taco Meeting

By lamis-rebeccaNov 24, 20232

I remember the crisp coolness of the Texas morning as I stepped out, the breakfast air fragrant with the promise of spicy salsa and warm tortillas from Torchy's Tacos. Matcha settled comfortably in her cat backpack, her curious green eyes taking in the hustle and bustle around us with the composed interest of a seasoned traveler.

The whisk of the fabric against her fur as her head poked out, the muted sounds of chattering patrons already forming a line at Torchy's... It was to be our last adventure in Austin for SXSW, a festival we'd begun together as college companions, now ending in the presence of investors rather than indie bands.

As we entered the Tex-Mex haven, Matcha's presence caused a delightful stir, her feline grace contrasting whimsically with the casual ambiance. The clinking of glasses and enthusiastic banter gave way to gleeful exclamations as people caught sight of her.

There we were, investor facing me, Matcha perched royally on the bar, turning a typical business meeting into a memorable encounter. Every now and then, a soft purr or an inquisitive tilt of her head reminded me that this was far from just another day on the job. With Matcha by my side, the ordinary had a way of transforming into the extraordinary, the epitome of a traveling cat's influence on a life once strictly canine-centric.

And nestled in that corner of Austin, with Matcha's steady rumble of contentment harmonizing with the sounds of a waking city, I embraced my evolution from a college student to the world's least likely—and most content—cat lady.
